  • Durability

The NAHB Research Center is a leader in assessing the durability of home building products. We investigate the entire spectrum of influences on durability — from natural disasters to maintenance issues. We conduct tests from stain resistance of countertop surfaces, to compressive strength of full-size walls up to loads of 400,000 pounds. In our lab, we conduct thermal conductivity tests on insulation materials; wind, water and structural tests on windows and doors; shear wall resistance tests; roof truss tests; and floor, joist, and roof systems' tests for both manufactured and site-built housing. We also have facilities test the impact resistance of windows, doors, and walls.

U.S. homebuyers have become more and more aware of durability issues surrounding the products in their homes, and builders need to respond to those growing consumer demands. Let the NAHB Research Center help your company identify and enhance the durability of your products through our wide array of laboratory testing capabilities. Contact us today.

  • Field Evaluation

It’s important to have a product perform well in computer models or in a laboratory setting – it’s also important to know how it will perform in real homes, under real-world conditions. The NAHB Research Center conducts field evaluations of building products and systems across the country and in every geographic and climatic region. Results from field evaluations can significantly enhance the way your company designs and markets your products. To get a better idea of the breadth and depth of field evaluation work the NAHB Research Center can conduct, browse the Field Evaluation section of our ToolBase technical website.
