Energy Engineer/Building Scientist

NAHB Research Center is looking for an engineer with expertise in residential energy efficiency and building science.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • BS degree in engineering or related fields (MS is preferred).
  • Knowledge of energy performance of residential buildings including building envelope and space conditioning.
  • Knowledge of building science principles related to residential construction including energy and moisture transfer.
  • Practical knowledge of residential building technologies and construction processes.

Additional preferred set of skills:

  • Knowledge of building codes and design standards (IECC, IRC, ACCA Manuals J&D) is preferred.
  • Experience with energy modeling software.
  • Data loggers programming and installation of data acquisition monitoring systems.
  • Experience with green building.
  • Data analysis and presentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research projects for government and industry clients with focus on advancing construction technology in the areas of energy efficiency and green building.
  • Development of written products including research plans and project reports.
  • Perform analysis of energy performance of residential buildings.
  • Evaluate innovative building technologies with respect to their energy or green performance including laboratory testing and field studies.
  • Assist builders with adoption of innovative building technologies.
